Frequently Asked Questions

Please reach us at mcphersonsales@sbcglobal.com if you cannot find an answer to your question.

Membership in the Sons of Confederate Veterans is open to all male descendants of any veteran who served honorably in the Confederate armed forces. Membership can be obtained through either lineal or collateral family lines and kinship to a veteran must be documented genealogically. The minimum age for full membership is 12, but there is no minimum for Cadet membership.

All members receive the excellent bi-monthly Confederate Veteran Magazine and a monthly Key Camp newsletter.

The Key Camp meets the 1st Thursday of every month at Zarda's BBQ in Lenexa, Kansas. Many gather at 6:00 pm to enjoy BBQ and conversation prior to the start of the meeting. The meeting begins at 6:30 pm  and end at 8:00 pm.

No. Just show up and join us. We look forward to meeting you.

In addition to monthly dinners "get togethers" for BBQ, we hold short business meetings then enjoy a guest speaker on civil war related events or people.

Among our group are volunteers to speak at various school or events around the greater KC area. Events like Missouri History Day at Lone Jack Battlefield, Mine Creek Battlefield Heritage Days, Shawnee Indian Day's, Camden Point Confederate Memorial service, etc.

Various members may care for, and clean Confederate headstones of soldiers buried in our area or aid prospective members in finding the Confederate ancestors through genealogy assistance.

Members will also have the opportunity to take group trips to National Civil War battlefields, like Wilson's Creek, Lexington, Pea Ridge, Mine Creek, Lone Jack, Blackjack and others. In addition, group trips are organized for longer excursions to Gettysburg, Antietam, Appomattox and others.

Once a year a Kansas State Convention and a National SCV Convention are held, and members are welcome to attend where additional museum and battlefield tours are offered.

Primarily, the Key Camp offers Civil War enthusiasts an opportunity of comradery, making new friendships, sharing family history and honoring the heritage of our Confederate ancestors.
